Models of Serviam — 2023 Alumnae Award Recipients

By Leah Folk

April 20, 2023

Each year two awards are given to outstanding Ursuline Academy St. Louis Alumnae. The Distinguished Alumna Award is presented to an alumna who exemplifies in her public and private life the Christian ideals and standards of Ursuline, for distinguished service in her profession or to her community or to Ursuline Academy. The annual Young Alumna Serviam Award honors an outstanding alumna who, through her service, leadership, and achievement, embodies the Serviam spirit of an Ursuline Academy education.

Both of these awards celebrate and highlight Ursuline women who live their lives as St. Angela did; actively living out her values, and reaching out into her community, and setting a new path forward for those entrusted in her care. This year, Ursuline Academy and the Alumnae Association is thrilled to announce our 2023 recipients of both of these awards:

Michelle Murray ’90 has been selected as the 2023 Recipient of the Distinguished Alumna Award.

Michelle has been very dedicated to Ursuline ever since she stepped through those doors for the first time.  She volunteered as a high school student and was involved in many activities ever since. Since 2013 she has served on our finance committee and was on the Serving Tomorrow Leadership Committee from 2015 -2020.  She was on the Board of Trustees for many years and served as president from 2017-2018. Michelle has also served on the Alumnae Association Board of Directors from 2020-2022 as President.  She has helped grow the Alumnae board and put together a new structure.  Michelle is also a wonderful and proud mother to several Ursuline graduates (Rachel ’13 and Paige ’18) and her current student Liz who will graduate in 2024.  Michelle has also been very generous in supporting all Ursuline fundraisers such as the Auction, Scholarships, and the Capital Campaign.

Michelle understands Serviam (I will serve) and lives it to the fullest and through many organizations such as The College School, Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri, Entrepreneur’s Organization, UMSL DEI Accelerator and many more.  Michelle has a passion for the organization, Rainbow Village/Promise Community Homes, working towards housing initiatives for adults with developmental disabilities.  She motivated others through the Junior League creating  a volunteer effort called Done in a Day so that busy professionals could make a volunteer opportunity happen.  Through her efforts with Almost Home, she had her daughters worked to fill some specific needs of a library.  As a mentor for women in the financial and accounting field, she has coached through mock interviews and helping students build the confidence to land promising jobs.  She has been active in Missouri Venture Forum and the Entrepenenur Program at Washington University. And her own firm, Segue Partners was a finalist for the Best Places to Work in St. Louis and more than 50% of her employees are women.  She continues to support Ursuline and young entrepreneurs reach great accomplishments and is a role model for Ursuline students, alums and our community.

Elizabeth Kozeny ’13 has been selected as the 2023 Recipient of the Young Alumna Serviam Award.

Elizabeth is a selfless individual who tirelessly dedicates her time and energy to serving others. She has always put the needs of others before her own and genuinely embodies the Serviam spirit. Elizabeth has worked with several organizations like Camp Rainbow, Love Your Melon, St. Louis Children’s Hospital, Friends of Kids with Cancer, and Best Buddies International, to name a few. Elizabeth understands the importance of Serviam as it allows her to have compassion and a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by those around her.

Michelle and Elizabeth will all be honored at the Class of 2023 Alumnae Induction Ceremony on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at the Academy. Please join us in congratulating these models of Serviam!
