New Robotics Partnership | Jr. Bearbotics

By Leah Folk

October 27, 2021

Though the Bearbotics team has had a bit of a different season leading up to this school year, they have been putting their practice and skills to good use and sharing their interest in robotics with some special Future Bears. As part of this semester’s Intro to Robotics course, students put their knowledge to work and designed and constructed a smaller-scale training course that is now being used by Ursuline’s Jr. Bearbotics team.

What started as an Admissions experience has turned into a mentorship program for nine young ladies interested in robotics. Students in the Intro to Robotics class, as well as those on the Bearbotics team have had a few sessions with the Jr. Team, and have spent time learning, building, and operating smaller scale robots together to learn about robotics in general and figure their way through the designed course. While overall being a simple layout, our current students used their skills and experience with their robots, physics, and problem-solving to create a set that helps them not only teach but learn as well.

Throughout the class, students in Intro to Robotics work together with the Bearbotics team to plan, design and build a fully functioning robot. Through this process, students learn about all aspects of building a robot, specifically, the mechanical, electrical, and computer science components, so they were the perfect examples to lead the Jr. team. While it is still early in the process, we are excited to see not only how much our current Bears are able to pass on, but also for the future of our Bearbotics team as we continue developing this partnership.
