A few weeks ago, Michelle Murray ’90 was featured in the St. Louis Business Journal in an interview taking an inside look at her path to entrepreneurship. Michelle Murray is the founder and managing director of the Sunset Hills-based Segue Partners. The firm — celebrating its tenth anniversary of serving St. Louis businesses — provides fund administration, investor relations, financial reporting, and back-office solutions for several types of investment funds. However, in addition to her daily work of helping investment funds stay on track, she also makes it a priority to help create opportunities for the next generation of women in the field.

From the interview, Michelle said, “Cultivating the next pack of talent, particularly women, is really important to me. It’s definitely a big passion of mine. Just look at the faces of my team and we have more women than we have men. The three leaders of the organization are women. It has been for me a big challenge in my career, the fact that I never really had a mentor to look up to who wasn’t a married white male who had a wife waiting for him at home with dinner on the table, doing the laundry, and he had no responsibilities for his family. That’s a big difference in the generation now that’s coming up. When I had to leave to pick up a child from daycare or I was running late because my kid was sick, I didn’t get the compassionate understanding boss that I am now.”

Michelle started Segue Partners after years of building her passion and portfolio, having started by specializing with smaller entrepreneurial companies and working her way up. Five years after Segue Partners’ founding, Michelle was the recipient of the 2016 St. Louis Business Journals Innovation Award for Accounting Individual. She continues to stay active in her community as a member of the AICPA, an inaugural member of the National Venture Capital Association’s CFO Task Force, an active member of The Entrepreneurs’ Organization and serves on the EO Accelerator Board, and beginning July 1, 2021 Michelle will serve as the president of the Ursuline Academy Alumnae Board of Directors.
