Emmy Award Winning Alumna

By Leah Folk

October 25, 2023

On October 24, 2022, Alexzandria Bell and Jean Kuczka lost their lives in a tragic shooting at CVPA High School here in St. Louis.

News stations quickly began coverage of the tragedy, working diligently to keep the community safe and informed. Kaitlyn Estopare ’18, and her fellow team members at KTVI Fox 2 News were among those breaking the story.

“At the time of the incident, I was at Fox 2 News for 4 months; straight out of college. I knew the business and what to expect but no one can prepare you for a feeling like that.”

From her first day on the job, Kaitlyn dove into her role at Fox 2, serving as a Producer of TV Broadcast. Working early mornings and covering live events, she learned quickly on the job and from her teammates the importance of communication, collaboration, and confidence in the booth.

It was announced in August of 2023 that the coverage by Kaitlyn and her team had been nominated in the 47 Annual Mid-America Emmys, for Breaking/Spot News-Multiple Reports category. Then on Saturday, September 30, she and her team at KTVI Fox 2 News took home the Emmy.

“I would like to send my condolences to the family of the deceased victims and the survivors. This award is for them.”

Congratulations to Kaitlyn and her team on this amazing honor!
