Dear Ursuline Community,
As the 2015-2016 school year winds down, the construction of our new science and performing arts building is gearing up. Plans are already in place to move our dance, music, and science classes into these new, state-of-the-art facilities in the second semester of next school year.
It has been an exciting year in the areas of technology and video production. Four of our students were winners in the 2015 Show-Me a Movie regional video production contest and three of our students were recognized by the C-Span television network for their movie on the topic of education reform. Four of our students also won awards for their work in information technology, along with their coding teacher, Ms. Jaime Gilligan, who has played an integral role in bringing a “Girls Who Code” club to Ursuline as well as developing both coding and AP computer science courses at UA. Education in the important STEM fields is alive and well at Ursuline. Details on these achievements can be found on the next page.
Our global education program has also been enriched this year as we have become one of three Ursuline schools in the United States to adopt the Ursuline Education Network’s (UEN) Global Scholars Program. I invite you to read the complete details of this program on page 5. As we continue to build relationships among Ursuline schools internationally, the Global Scholars program is a perfect fit for our bright, engaged, globally aware students.
At our end-of-year gathering, we honored retiring science teacher, Judy Rieke who has spent the last 15 years teaching physics to Ursuline freshmen. If you have an opportunity, please thank her for her service to the young women of Ursuline. Longtime social studies teacher Tracy Nondorf is also leaving UA after this school year to take on new challenges at a school in Phoenix, and Spanish teacher Allison Gray is leaving for new challenges in education as well. We wish them well and thank them for all they have done for our students.
Finally, I want to thank you for your support of Ursuline Academy and the wonderful young women we serve. Your generosity, work, and prayers make this outstanding education and formation possible.
Mark Michalski, Ph.D.
