Summer Reading Lists 2010
Each student attending Ursuline Academy is required to read during the summer in preparation for her English classes the following year. We have tried to gather a list encompassing all genres--the novel, poetry, drama, and the biography--many tastes and varying reading abilities.
The required book for all students prior to the 2010-2011 school year is THE HELP by Kathryn Stockett. Copies are available in the Ursuline bookstore for $17.50. Copies of the text are also available through your public libraries: it has been a Book Club selection for many groups throughout the St. Louis area, so many copies should be out there. Finally, the text is available through both the County Library and the St. Louis City Library as a downloadable audio book to both ipods and mp3 players.
Each student must also select a book from a grade specific list. Each list was designed to highlight particular areas to be covered in the class. The student will be held accountable for her reading in the form of a written essay or project on the text chosen from the list. The assignment will be completed in the first two weeks of the fall semester.
